SENATOR STEVE OGDEN
Born September 21, 1950 to Emil and Clementine Ogden; oldest of six children, raised in Abilene.
Attended the United States Naval Academy, played football, graduated and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy in 1973.
Married the former Beverly Ann Joy of Annapolis, MD in 1973; their children are Michael, Stephanie, Kristen, and Charles Benedict "Chaz" Ogden.
Served as an officer in the U.S. Navy submarine fleet from 1973 to 1982; attended the Naval Nuclear Power School 1974-75.
Moved to Bryan; established Ogden Resources, an independent oil and gas exploration company.
Attended the Mays School of Business at Texas A&M University, obtained a Master of Business Administration degree.
First elected to the Texas House of Representatives for District 14 (Brazos County) in 1990. Re-elected twice.
Entered the Texas Senate representing District 5 in January 1997; focused on budget issues, education, child protection, transportation safety, and criminal justice.
Received the Bob Bullock Award for Outstanding Public Stewardship in January 2003.
Appointed Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee in January 2004 by Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst.
As result of his accomplishments during the legislative sessions in 2005, named one of Ten Best Legislators by Texas Monthly Magazine, a Top Legislator by Capital Inside, and Pro-Life Chairman of the Year by Texas Right to Life.
